Bounty of the County – Harvest to Dish

One of the most incredible things about Adams County, Pa., is it’s farming community. Orchards cover more than 20,000 acres of land in Adams County, and those orchards provide both stunning scenery and unbelievably delicious fruit. Lots of fruit – Adams County growers harvest 280 million pounds of apples each year, as well as countless other fruits and vegetables.

Aside from enjoying that produce fresh, it’s amazing to see those fruits and vegetables turned into mouthwatering dishes. Many Gettysburg area restaurants incorporate seasonal, fresh produce in their dishes when possible, and for the second year, Adams County is celebrating that farm-to-fork idea with Bounty of the County. Bounty of the County is an extraordinary experience for those looking to embrace the taste of harvest season, and an amazing way to show appreciation for local farms and restaurants. During Bounty of the County, chefs at Gettysburg area restaurants turn donated, fresh-from-the-farm produce into dishes and meals that are not only visually stunning but also incredibly delicious. Take a look:

Tomatoes that aren’t quite ripe are delicious too – like in this warm mini cornbread topped with crab salad, pickled green tomatoes and sweet corn.
Adams County tomatoes add freshness to seasonal meals like this pan seared white fish topped with tomatoes and corn.
Freshly harvested apples get used in savory dishes too – like this roasted duck with savory roasted apples.
Colorful heirloom cherry tomatoes add freshness to hearty dishes like this braised oxtail, served over creamed arugula grits.
Peaches are abundant in Adams County right now, and make the perfect seasonal addition to desserts like this grilled peach-tea trifle.
Peaches go wonderfully in breakfast dishes, too – like this peach, yogurt and homemade granola parfait.

From August 9-18, visit participating Gettysburg area restaurants and order off of their specially crafted Bounty of the County menu to enjoy a meal made with local Adams County produce.
