Basil Biggs and Excerpts of the Black Community in Gettysburg

Join local historian Jean Howard Green for a special presentation centering on Basil Biggs, one of the three historic figures featured in the virtual reality experience at Ticket to the Past – Unforgettable Journeys in the Gettysburg Lincoln Railroad StationTM. Explore the Black community of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, around the time of the American Civil War and learn about Basil Biggs’ life in the community before, during and after the Battle of Gettysburg.

Basil Biggs was well-known in Gettysburg as a farmer, veterinarian and leader on the Underground Railroad. Learn the connections between the Lincoln Cemetery, the only existing Black cemetery in Gettysburg, and the stories of Basil Biggs and Gettysburg’s Black community.

Tickets are required in advance. The virtual reality experience inside the station is open before the event. Buy your admission ticket at a special rate when you purchase an event ticket and experience history in your virtual reality encounter during an available showtime.
