Registration is now open for Seminary Ridge Museum’s Annual Symposium,“Monuments and Meaning: Making Sense of the Civil War Memorial Landscape.”

As the guns were silenced, Union and Confederate veterans and the public began erecting monuments to memorialize the Civil War. Contentious debates surrounded the construction of these monuments from the very beginning. In the last five years, the debate has spilled onto the front pages of newspapers across the nation. This year, Seminary Ridge Museum’s annual Symposium will take a deep look at Civil War memory and monuments. On March 21, join a panel of historians, at the heart of the world’s largest outdoor sculpture garden, as we look at the role Civil War monuments have played in shaping our country’s remembrance of the conflict.

Featuring:

W. Todd Groce, Ph.D. – President and CEO, Georgia Historical Society

Jill Titus, Ph.D. – Associate Director of Civil War Institute, Gettysburg College

Daryl Black, Ph.D. – Executive Director, Seminary Ridge Museum

Peter Miele – COO and Director of Education, Seminary Ridge Museum

You won’t want to miss what is sure to be an engaging day of presentations on a timely subject!
