Gettysburg Beyond the Battle Museum
625 Biglerville Road
Gettysburg, PA
While Gettysburg’s history uniquely shaped its response to World War II, in many ways Gettysburg was a microcosm of the American home-front experience. Additionally, the battlefield saw visits by future WWII leaders for training, an active training camp for psychological warfare, an active prisoner of war camp, and significant contributions made to scrap metal drives. In the community, Gettysburg College became a training ground for Army Air Corp cadets, and, in the rich agricultural lands of Adams County, local citizens volunteered to help harvest crops to support the war effort. This program will explore Gettysburg’s multifaceted World War II experience.
