The Language of Flowers is a First Friday event sponsored by Gettysburg Area Retail Merchants Association (GARMA) on May 6 themed “April Showers Bring May Flowers.”
During the Civil War, sending and receiving flowers was not as simple as shopping for the prettiest bunch of blooms. Each flower had its own meaning – a bouquet could send a message of love, like or pure hatred.
A short presentation of the Language of Flowers will be presented. Learn all the messages a simple bouquet could send. Create your own message for a friend by crafting a child-sized arrangement of flowers with a special meaning. Supplies will be provided. For ages 8 and older.
Children of Gettysburg 1863’s First Friday activities are free of charge and open to the public.
Tickets are required for the children’s history museum experience. Children/youth (up to age 12) receive free admision tickets with a ticketed adult.
