Come to the next in-person poetry reading during First Friday and welcome back featured reader, Dustin Nispel, well-known poet in the PA poetry scene and beyond. Readings begin with an open mic so bring a poem to share if you wish. Dustin is an international award-winning poet and visual artist. He was born in York, Pennsylvania and currently resides in Gardners, Pennsylvania. He has been writing poetry and prose since he was thirteen and, through Community Arts Ink, published his first book of poetry, The Tower, in 2014. He has won multiple awards for his writing and performances in slams and competitions, including being recognized on the international stage in 2015 DITËT E NAIMIT in Tetova, Macedonia, receiving Naim’s Candle. His newly released, full-length poetry book, The Road Home, is filled with his own illustrations and depicts the struggle in finding what we all seek, happiness and healing. Readings begin with an open mic so bring a poem to share if you wish. Looking forward to seeing you at The Ragged Edge Coffeehouse on October 7.
Here is a taste of Dustin’s poetry:
The Graveyard
The factory buzzes and
crashes in alarm and her roof
into the bowels of her production
where the strong and the weak
feed their lives into the chewing
conveyors of machines and heat
their hands industrialized and their feet
heavily plated
week after week after week
where dreams are built bonds are
families wilt in the dry air of her
under her drills and under her saws
