Originally known as Candlelight at Christ  which debuted in 1999, Songs and Stories of a Civil War Hospital shares the authentic story of how Christ Lutheran Church was used as a Civil War hospital during and after the Battle of Gettysburg.

Through the years, more than 20,000 people have attended this moving and solemn program filled with Civil War era music and poetry.


The 2023 Songs and Stories season opens June 10th with four additional performances through the year:

June 10th – season opener

July 1st – the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg

August 5th

November 18th – Remembrance Weekend

December 2nd


Each evening’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. with a musical prelude, followed by the main program at 8 p.m. in the same historic church that served as a sanctuary for the wounded.


This event is free and open to the public.

The volunteers who make Songs and Stories possible do so with the help of offerings and donations which are graciously appreciated.
