U.S. Army War College Memorial Day Observance

The U.S. Army War College (USAWC) will host a solemn public commemoration ceremony for Memorial Day at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC). The ceremony will include a wreath laying, flag raising, recognition of Gold Star family members, and a 21-gun salute courtesy of the Pennsylvania Army National guard.

U.S. Army Lieutenant General Bill Burleson, former commander of the 8th Army, will deliver remarks on the significance and history of Memorial Day observances. The Carlisle Town Brass Band will provide an educational musical selection for the event.

Memorial Day is a solemn tradition dating back to post-Civil War observances of what would be officially declared “Dedication Day,” in 1868. Offering citizens and service members alike a way to honor the sacrifice of all who have died in service to the nation, Memorial Day observances and ceremonies have become a fundamental American tradition.

Join us at 11:20am on Monday, May 27th, 2024, at 950 Soldiers Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013.

In case of poor weather conditions, the ceremony will move indoors. Parking and program are FREE. Event is open to the public.
