What a Girl Saw and Heard of the Battle: The Experiences of Tillie Pierce

The year 1888 marked the 25th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. It was a year of monument dedications and regimental reunions. In an era where histories of the battle were a dime a dozen and being published at an unprecedented rate, Mrs. Matilda Pierce Alleman recorded her reminiscences of the battle from the perspective of a 15-year-old girl. In more recent years her account has been widely reprinted and acclaimed as the best civilian account of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Join historian and guide Timothy H. Smith as he conducts his own critical analysis of her extraordinary experiences during the battle.
