Since 1954, the Haugh family of the Altland House has established a tradition of culinary excellence and gracious hospitality with now the third generations of Haugh’s running the operations. The family takes pride in the rich history of their restaurant and inn, but has also kept current with changing times. Today they see themselves as a place to enjoy fine food in a casual atmosphere.
The Altland House is the longest continuously open tavern in the county. A licensed tavern has stood at the corner of the square of Abbottstown since 1750. The inn, like the town, has also undergone many changes since colonial times. Purchased by Rueben Altland in 1880, the Altland House, as it then became known, flourished as an inn and tavern. The building was given its present facade in 1911. The Haugh family recently completed renovations which revived the late Victorian sense of style and comfort.
