Gettysburg Historic Walking Town Tour – Reluctant Witnesses

Join Reluctant Witnesses for The Reluctant Witnesses, a walking tour of the southern part of town and our signature tour.

This 2 hour Gettysburg town walking tour showcases the civilians of Gettysburg and their children who witnessed the horror of war; the tour highlights historic buildings and their importance and recounts firsthand descriptions of civilian life and the musings of soldiers who tactically and tragically occupied the streets of Gettysburg for three long days in July 1863.

Your guide’s knowledge and pure joy gained in finding these life lines connecting the present and the past is humbling and contagious! He brings July 1863 in the small town of Gettysburg to life.

This is a leisurely paced walk on paved roads…wheelchairs are manageable. The walking tour lasts two hours and may go up cemetery hill.

The tour starts on the sidewalk at the corner of Baltimore and Lefever Street across from Mr. G’s ice cream and proceeds north on to Baltimore Street, highlighting areas on what was the main street through town in 1863. We walk down historic High Street, talking about the then and now uses of these borough buildings and return to the starting location by way of Baltimore Street.
