Adventure, foodie delights, Instagram-worthy photo spots and eclectic shops? what more could your teen want from a family vacation?
You packed the car, you drove an hour, maybe two or three, and you are here for your family getaway. The kids are hungry, so you head to Blue & Gray Bar and Grill. You can’t go wrong with American classics like an old-fashioned burger and fries or wings.
Afterward, sprinkle in some history and adventure with a horseback tour or a ride in a Scoot Coupe. These tours make a great photo opp and are great ways to tour the battlefield in a hands-on fashion!
End your evening with a family bonding experience at one of our escape rooms – some even have a Civil War history theme.
Wake up with a cup of coffee and a bite to eat at Ragged Edge Coffeehouse – your teens will love this trendy local favorite. Then explore the eclectic boutiques and shops downtown with the promise of finding the perfect souvenir to bring home. And we know your teens love name brands, so head to The Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg for great deals on their favorite brands.
Add in some more history with a cool Double Decker Bus Tour or a trip to the Shriver House Museum where they can learn about a local Gettysburg family’s experience during the Battle of Gettysburg. It might just make them a little more thankful for your time spent together on a relaxing vacation.
The kids are starting to get hungry, and you know everyone will be happy with a pizza! Gettysburg has some great pizza shops to choose from. But you must eat quickly so you don’t miss your evening ghost tour. You can even take it up a notch and do a paranormal investigation. Your teens will be bragging to their friends back home that they used real ghost hunting equipment like they use on TV!
The kids are actually bummed because it is almost time to head home. Before you do, to take a quick trip to nearby “Snack Town” Hanover, PA and tour the Utz Potato Chip Factory. Grab a couple of bags of potato chips for snacks for the ride home. If you have time on your way home, you may even stop at Carlisle Sports Emporium for virtual reality video games, laser tag or go-karting.
Driving home, instead of having their heads in their phones, they are actually talking about the trip – total success!
