The World War II American Experience Museum hosts the D-Day Symposium on June 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 845 Crooked Creek Road, Gettysburg. This special event commemorates the anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy through a full day of presentations, discussion, and historical exploration focused on June 6, 1944.
Historians and researchers Leon Reed, Eric Kosalko, David Lavely, and Stuart Dempsey will examine key aspects of Operation Overlord, from the massive logistical buildup behind the invasion to the use of Allied invasion markings, the Ranger assault on Pointe du Hoc, and personal stories from the Normandy campaign. Their presentations offer deeper insight into the planning, sacrifice, and determination that contributed to the success of D-Day and the liberation of Europe.
Beyond the presentations, guests can enjoy Normandy-inspired meals and beverages, explore historic military vehicles, and climb aboard the museum’s M4A1 Sherman Medium Tank during the lunch break.
Following the final presentation, attendees are invited to gather for a reception at the Pub and share insights from the day’s discussions.
Guests looking to continue their World War II experience can head to Gettysburg’s historic Majestic Theater for a screening of Pressure, a gripping film that examines the critical weather decision that shaped the launch of D-Day. The story adds valuable context to the themes explored throughout the symposium, offering a closer look at the leadership, uncertainty, and strategic planning behind Operation Overlord.
As the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary in 2026, the D-Day Symposium highlights the service and sacrifice of the Allied forces whose actions helped shape the modern world. The event preserves the legacy of June 6, 1944, while connecting audiences to a defining chapter in American and world history.
