Seminary Ridge Museum presents Revolution on the Ridge: Revolutionary Documents and Civil Wars – Common Sense and the Emancipation Proclamation on Friday, March 20 at 3:30 p.m. at 111 Seminary Ridge in Gettysburg.
Historian Codie Eash explores the connection between Thomas Paine’s Common Sense (1776) and Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation (1863), two influential documents issued during times of national conflict that shaped American ideas about liberty and freedom.
This program serves as the first installment of the museum’s America250 commemorative programming and examines how these two landmark pronouncements—one a revolutionary call to action and the other a presidential decree—help define pivotal moments in the nation’s history.
