Adams County Library: Living Library

The Adams County Library System will host its fourth annual Living Library, inviting participants to take part in a unique and engaging experience centered on conversation and connection. In this program, individuals serve as “human books,” sharing their personal stories, backgrounds, and perspectives with participants who “check them out” for approximately 30-minute sessions.

Through both one-on-one and small group discussions, the Living Library creates an environment where people can ask questions, listen actively, and engage with experiences that may be different from their own. The program is rooted in the belief that dialogue can challenge stereotypes, reduce bias, and build greater understanding.

By bringing together a diverse range of voices, the Living Library encourages participants to step outside their usual circles, explore new viewpoints, and reflect on their own assumptions. The experience is intended to foster empathy, promote inclusivity, and strengthen connections.

Sessions will be offered at all six Adams County Library System branches, providing multiple opportunities to participate in this meaningful initiative.
