The Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania will host the premiere of The Gettysburg Book: A Father, Son & The Killer Angels on July 3, 2026 at 7:30 p.m., bringing a powerful new documentary to the heart of Adams County just ahead of the Independence Day weekend. Filmmakers Jake Boritt and Gordon Beittenmiller, working alongside Gettysburg History, present an in-depth look at the creation of Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Killer Angels, a work that helped shape modern understanding of the Battle of Gettysburg and inspired both Ken Burns’ The Civil War and the 1993 film Gettysburg.
The film traces the story through the perspective of Shaara’s children, Jeff and Lila, offering a personal lens into the creative process and the lasting emotional impact on the Shaara family. Insight from notable voices, including actors Martin Sheen, Jeff Daniels, and Stephen Lang, director Ron Maxwell, and respected historians Gary Gallagher, Carrie Janney, and Scott Hartwig, underscores the book’s cultural and historical reach.
Following the screening, attendees can stay for a live panel discussion featuring the filmmakers and bestselling author Jeff Shaara.
General admission tickets are priced at $20.
