Seminary Ridge Museum & Education Center presents Fridays on the Ridge: “The Glare of the Conflagration” on Friday, May 8 from 3:30–4:30 p.m. at 111 Seminary Ridge in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Held on the historic grounds of Seminary Ridge, this outdoor program explores a pivotal moment that shaped the Gettysburg Campaign and the broader Civil War story.
Historian Codie Eash examines the burning of the Wrightsville-Columbia Bridge on June 28, 1863, and its far-reaching impact across south-central Pennsylvania. The program highlights how this dramatic event influenced military strategy, disrupted civilian life, and affected both Union and Confederate movements in the days leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg. The discussion also connects these events back to Seminary Ridge, reinforcing Gettysburg’s lasting importance in American history as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.
This free program takes place outdoors, weather permitting. Guests should meet at the Luther Statue and are encouraged to bring chairs.
