Cyclorama Viewfinder Experience at Gettysburg National Military Park
Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania presents an immersive evening program that traces the origins of the iconic Gettysburg Cyclorama. Led by Licensed Battlefield Guide and Cyclorama expert Chris Brenneman, this guided experience connects visitors directly to the 1882 photographs taken by William Tipton to guide the original Cyclorama artists.
The program begins with an introduction to Tipton’s historic images before participants board a double-decker bus and travel onto the Gettysburg battlefield. At select stops, attendees stand at the exact vantage points used in the 19th century and recreate the views through their own cameras, gaining a deeper understanding of how the landscape informed the massive painting.
The experience concludes inside the Museum & Visitor Center on the Cyclorama platform, where participants compare their photographs to the finished artwork and explore how the battlefield was interpreted into one of Gettysburg’s most recognized visual narratives. The program takes place May 30 and July 25 at 6:15 p.m. Space is limited and advance reservations are required.
