Step beyond the exhibits and experience a rare piece of living history on July 1 at the Beyond the Battle Museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Under the close supervision of expert instructor Phil Spaugy, participants will have the opportunity to load and fire an authentic Civil War firearm using one blank cartridge, offering firsthand insight into the experience of a 19th-century soldier.
Held outdoors at the Beyond the Battle Museum on Biglerville Road near the Gettysburg battlefield, this hands-on program also includes a live demonstration covering proper loading procedures, firearm handling, maintenance, and the historical significance of Civil War-era weapons. The experience blends interactive learning with Gettysburg’s rich military history, making it a standout event for Civil War enthusiasts and history-minded visitors exploring Adams County.
Rifle firings will take place every five minutes from noon to 1:30 p.m. Advance registration is required, and participants must select a specific ticket appointment time. To view all available time slots, choose “other times” during registration.
Tickets are $30 for Gettysburg History members and $40 for general admission.
Important: All participants must sign a waiver of liability prior to firing the rifle. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Those ages 16 or 17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
