The Adams County Library in Gettysburg hosts Revolutionary Reads, a special summer book club series exploring the people, conflicts, and ideas that shaped the American Revolution. The program takes place Tuesdays on June 11, July 9, and August 13 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., offering readers an engaging way to connect with history through both fiction and nonfiction selections tied to America’s 250th anniversary.
Participants can bring a snack and beverage while discussing paired titles that examine different aspects of Revolutionary-era America from multiple perspectives. Readers may choose one or both books each month, creating opportunities for thoughtful comparison between historical scholarship and storytelling.
The June discussion features Washington’s Crossing by David Hackett Fischer alongside The Crossing by Howard Fast. July focuses on 1776 by David McCullough and Rebellion, 1776 by Laurie Halse Anderson, while August explores Scars of Independence by Holger Hoock paired with the classic novel Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes.
Held in downtown Gettysburg, Revolutionary Reads blends education, conversation, and historical reflection in one of the country’s most historically significant communities, adding local perspective to the broader commemoration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
