The Momentous Months of Summer 1776

Adams County Library presents “…that these united colonies are and of right ought to be free and independent states.” The Momentous Months of Summer 1776 on Tuesday, July 28 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at 140 Baltimore St in Gettysburg. This adult educational program features historian Phillip Greenwalt and explores the pivotal months of June, July, and August 1776 that shaped the birth of the United States.

Held in the heart of historic Gettysburg in Adams County, the presentation examines the political debates, military developments, and revolutionary decisions surrounding America’s declaration of independence. Greenwalt sheds light on familiar events from the summer of 1776 while dispelling common myths and misconceptions connected to the Revolutionary era. The program also encourages further exploration into the people, events, and ideas that defined the nation’s founding.

Adults interested in early American history, Revolutionary War topics, and educational programming in Gettysburg can expect an engaging and informative evening focused on one of the most transformative periods in American history.

Registration is required for this adult program. Registration closes at 6:00 PM on July 28, 2026.
