Author Angela Bailey brings Gettysburg’s women and civilian experiences into focus during Beyond the Battlefield: Gettysburg’s Civilian Story on Thursday, August 20, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Adams County Library in Gettysburg. Drawing from historical research and fiction, Bailey explores the lives of local families who endured the realities of war from inside their homes while armies clashed across Gettysburg in July 1863.
The presentation examines requisitioned homes, wartime medicine, and the lasting emotional and physical toll the Battle of Gettysburg placed on residents throughout Adams County. Bailey highlights the personal stories often overlooked in traditional battlefield history, offering a deeper understanding of how civilians navigated fear, loss, and survival during one of the nation’s defining moments. The program gives readers, history enthusiasts, and visitors a closer look at the human side of Gettysburg beyond military strategy and combat.
Registration is required and closes August 20, 2026, at 6 p.m.
