Civilians Experience (Town Tour)

Gettysburg Licensed Town Guides presents the Civilians Experience Town Tour, an engaging walking tour that explores Gettysburg through the eyes of the residents who lived through the Battle of Gettysburg. Available daily between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., guests can choose from 60- or 90-minute tours, both featuring easy walking through the historic downtown area.

Led by a Gettysburg Licensed Town Guide, the tour shares firsthand accounts of the men, women, and children who witnessed the battle unfold around them. Visitors learn how local residents endured the fighting, cared for thousands of wounded soldiers, and navigated the challenges that followed after the armies departed. The experience also highlights Gettysburg’s recovery and the lasting impact of President Lincoln’s visit in November 1863.

Each tour offers a unique perspective through primary-source narratives, local history, and stories that reveal Gettysburg beyond the battlefield. The guide provides the meeting location after booking. Advance reservations are required.
