Walter, The Sharpshooter from Georgia

Travel back to the blistering days of July 1863 during Walter: The Sharpshooter from Georgia at 8:30 p.m. on July 18 and July 25 in the Keeping Room at the Farnsworth House Inn on Baltimore Street in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

This theatrical Gettysburg history program follows Walter from his Georgia beginnings to the cramped attic of the Sweney House, where he becomes a desperate marksman above the chaos of the Battle of Gettysburg. Surrounded by sweltering heat, powder smoke and rifle fire, the attic becomes both refuge and coffin as fear, duty and survival collide.

Through dramatic storytelling, audiences meet Walter, hear his voice and experience the terror of those final hours. The presentation also explores the possibility that his story crossed paths with the tragic death of Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed during the Battle of Gettysburg.

Blending history, legend and the whispers of the house itself, this imaginative retelling brings one soldier’s possible story to life inside the historic Farnsworth House Inn in downtown Gettysburg.
