John Burns: “The Hero of Gettysburg”

Historian Tim Smith presents a special program on John Burns and his role in the Battle of Gettysburg on Burns’ birthday, September 5, at 11 a.m.

On July 1, 1863, John Burns left his home and joined the fighting west of Gettysburg. He was wounded and captured but survived the battle to become one of the most famous civilian warriors in American history. Smith shares the story of Burns and his remarkable role in the Battle of Gettysburg.

The program takes place at the Battlefield Overlook Event Center, 625 Biglerville Road in Gettysburg.

Registration is required. Gettysburg History members receive free admission, and general admission is $10.
