THE GETTYSBURG BRASS BAND FESTIVAL
Since 1998, Gettysburg has hosted the annual Gettysburg Brass Band Festival, a celebration of live music that brings together brass bands, community ensembles, jazz groups, and others. The festival attracts audiences from across the region and highlights the musical energy of local, region, national, and international musicians.
Here is the general flow of events that visitors can expect each year:
- Community Band Night opens the festival on Wednesday with performances by concert and big bands.
• A benefit golf tournament on Thursday morning, supporting the festival and its programs.
• In the evening on Thursday, the popular Jazz al Fresco event offers outdoor dining combined with a live jazz concert. This is a ticketed event, and they sell fast!
• Downtown Gettysburg becomes a lively musical hub for Bands in the Borough, where small ensembles perform at locations throughout the town.
• Two full days of free performances on the main stage at the Gettysburg Seminary features a variety of brass bands representing many traditions and styles on Saturday and Sunday.
• Saturday night concludes with the Taps Tribute at sundown, from the cupola of the Gettysburg Seminary.
The Gettysburg Brass Band Festival continues to offer a welcoming and inspiring musical experience for performers and audiences alike.
