Love and Marriage: Gettysburg Battlefield Romances

During the first three days of July 1863, some 160,000 men were engaged in the greatest battle in military history. The civilians who lived in the area of the battle were witnesses to the horrific fighting, and in the aftermath of the battle, cared for the wounded and dying. With so many young men, it should be no surprise that romances would develop between wounded soldiers and their “angels of mercy.”

Join Historian Timothy H. Smith for this special free public Valentine’s Day lecture as he delves in “Love and Marriage: Gettysburg Battlefield Romances.”
