Actor/Playwright Chuck Johnson brings President Abraham Lincoln’s thoughts to life with “The Night Before Gettysburg,” a short, one-man, three-act play, that provides a peek into the 16th president’s state of mind as he put the finishing touches on his immortal “Gettysburg Address.”
Contrary to Lincoln’s own words, the Address continues to be long remembered nearly 161 years after delivered in war-torn Gettysburg. The night before he was to speak, on November 18, 1863, Lincoln painstakingly poured over his draft on the second floor of the David Wills House, right on Gettysburg’s town square.
Free public performances take place June 28, June 29, and June 30 at 7 p.m., staged at the Gettysburg Lincoln Railroad Station’s outdoor, covered platform where he arrived in 1863, the current home of Tickets to the Past – Unforgettable Journeys, 35 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
The play lasts fewer than 30 minutes followed by optional Question & Answer session with the actor/playwright.
Presented by Destination Gettysburg, performances occur rain or shine.
