Presentation and Book Signing: Civil War Congressmen

This program, sponsored by the Thaddeus Stevens Society, brings two authors, Jeffry Boutwell and Dylan Waugh, to speak and sign their books in the social hall of Christ Lutheran Church at 30 Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg, on Friday, May 16. Boutwell and Waugh’s books highlight two important Civil War and Reconstruction congressmen who worked closely together to champion a more equal society in America: George Sewall Boutwell and Thaddeus Stevens.

Jeffry Boutwell, a distant relation of his subject, is the author of Boutwell: Radical Republican and Champion of Democracy, and Dylan Waugh authored Thaddeus Stevens: Forgotten Champion of Racial Equity. Both books are available at For the Historian bookstore at 42 York Street.
