Looking for something really spectacular to experience these next few weekends?
Consider Adams County during blossom season!
These final weekends in April and the first of May seem like the best times to visit as blossoms emerge in a breathtaking landscape surrounding Gettysburg. Nearly 20,000 acres of orchards make Adams County among the top five apple producers in the U.S. and other fruits growing here just add to the strength and impact the industry has on this mostly rural community.
Check out the Adams County Blossom Belt map, a driving trail with recommendations about how to see blossoms and where to eat, shop and experience spring’s beauty.
It’s a quick drive from downtown Gettysburg to the Adams County Blossom Belt, where fruit trees paint a picture in hues of pink and white. Apple, apricot, cherry, peach, pear and plum trees are responsible for this dazzling display, guided by the hands of dedicated, hardworking farmers, some whom have been cultivating their crops for generations.
Gaze upon the sea of blossoms by heading north for farm markets stocked with local produce nestled among blooming orchards. Enjoy unique places to eat. Schedule a carriage ride or wine tasting. Don’t miss special events celebrating the season such as the Adams County Blossom Festival at the National Apple Museum and Hollabaugh Bros. Spring Blossom Event, both held April 27. All this and more are waiting for you in Gettysburg and Adams County.
Since Mother Nature can be difficult to predict, plan your drive as we update bloom times on Facebook and Instagram.
With so many varieties of apples grown in these parts, they begin to bloom as weather and location dictate.
So go ahead, get off the beaten path. Buckle up for an experience like no other in the hills and valleys of the Adams County Blossom Belt.
