Gettysburg’s Creative Entrepreneurs

When the Wallaces first moved from Atlanta to Adams County in 2003, they settled in Littlestown, taking over an already-established retail business. As their family grew, they moved to Gettysburg, seeing a town full of possibility. “We loved that Gettysburg had this mix of history and energy,” says Timbrel, whose background in merchandising shaped the couple’s first store, Lark, which originally opened in 2011 at a different location, offering artful, design-driven gifts and home décor that inspire joy. Her knack for storytelling through retail soon expanded into three more shops, each with its own personality and audience.

“Each store gave us room to explore another side of what we love. Each retail space fit the story we were trying to tell,” she explains. Nerd Herd became a playful celebration of games and gifts that spark curiosity. Oh Man! brought a modern sense of humor and style to men’s gifts and apparel. Gettysburg Goods highlights local makers and small-batch products that celebrate the region’s identity.

Meanwhile, Scott Wallace makes it all work behind the scenes. “Timbrel dreams it; I make sure the tech behaves,” he jokes. From point-of-sale systems to data analytics, his technical skill keeps four busy storefronts and a growing online audience running smoothly.

How Creativity and Community Thrive Together

The Wallaces see their work as more than business. It’s a way to make Gettysburg shine. “We wanted to create shops that reflect joy and imagination,” says Timbrel. “People come here expecting history, and they find that, but they also find a creative community that’s alive and evolving.”

They collaborate with local artists, source regionally made goods and hire locally whenever possible. Their shops are steps from Lincoln Square, where locals and visitors cross paths daily. “It’s small-town energy with global ideas,” Scott says. “That’s what makes it special.”

Modern Retail in a Historic Setting

Running four shops in historic buildings requires balance, honoring Gettysburg’s heritage while bringing in fresh design, technology, and humor. The Wallaces use data-driven insights to guide inventory and layout decisions while ensuring each store feels unique and personal.

“Creativity doesn’t have to fight with technology,” Scott says. “When they work together, customers feel it, you can see it in their smiles.”

Their approach blends modern retail strategy with genuine human touch, proof that innovation thrives even on the most storied streets. Whether it’s a behind-the-scenes video of new arrivals or a lighthearted Instagram post celebrating Gettysburg’s character, the Wallaces use digital tools to share the same warmth customers experience in person. “Connection is our brand,” Timbrel says. “It’s about making people smile, whether they’re in the shop or scrolling from a thousand miles away.”

Why Gettysburg Works for Makers and Dreamers

Timbrel sums up their journey best: “This town celebrates ideas. If you have passion and persistence, Gettysburg welcomes you.”

From Lark’s artful whimsy to Gettysburg Goods’ hometown pride, their work proves that great retail is really about great storytelling.
