Book Talk & Signing – The Weather Gods Curse: The Gettysburg Campaign

The Gettysburg Heritage Center in Gettysburg hosts an evening of Civil War history and meteorological insight on May 21 as authors Jeffrey J. Harding and Dr. Jon M. Nese discuss their book, “The Weather Gods Curse: The Gettysburg Campaign.” The program begins at 7 PM inside the Heritage Center Conference Room and explores how extreme weather conditions shaped the movements, hardships, and battlefield experiences of Union and Confederate forces throughout the Gettysburg Campaign.

Drawing from firsthand accounts, detailed narratives, and modern meteorological research, Harding and Nese examine the storms, heat, mud, and atmospheric conditions that influenced one of the most significant campaigns of the Civil War. Their presentation blends military history with weather science to reveal a lesser-known dimension of Gettysburg.

Jeffrey J. Harding serves as a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg and previously worked as a professional development officer, command historian, and maritime analyst for the Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center and the Office of Naval Intelligence. Dr. Jon M. Nese oversees the undergraduate program in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science at Penn State University and formerly worked as chief meteorologist at the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia, along with serving as an on-air storm analyst for The Weather Channel.
