Join us as we kick off Eddie Plank’s 150th birthday celebration with a special panel featuring former Major League Baseball players, and Pennsylvania natives, Sid Bream and Cody Eppley. From growing up on small town ballfields to playing in iconic stadiums, Bream and Eppley will share their personal stories, career highlights, and the challenges and triumphs of their journeys to professional baseball.
The conversation will be moderated by Tom McMillan, an author and historian with deep roots in the sports media industry, including 25 years as the VP of Communications for the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL).
As we honor the life and legacy of one of baseball’s early legends, this panel will offer a rare glimpse into the journey of professional players who followed in Eddie’s footsteps, from the heart of Pennsylvania to the big stage of Major League Baseball.
Our Special Guests:
Sid Bream – Born in Carlisle and raised in Mount Holly Springs, Sid Bream played 12 seasons in the Big Leagues, including memorable stints with both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves. Bream is perhaps best known for his dramatic game-winning slide in the 1992 National League Championship Series, which sent the Braves to their second consecutive World Series. Today, Bream resides outside of Pittsburgh with his wife of over 40 years, Michele. He is an avid outdoorsman as well as a motivational speaker who frequently speaks at churches, youth groups, and schools.
Cody Eppley – Known for his distinctive sidearm delivery, Dillsburg native Cody Eppley pitched in the Majors for both the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees. Eppley later joined the Atlantic League, playing for the Lancaster Barnstormers and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, earning two All-Star selections with the latter. Today, he works in the financial sector and lives in central Pennsylvania with his wife and children.
