Civil War Living History at the National Apple Museum

Biglerville Historical and Preservation Society brings the Civil War to the National Apple Museum with a Civil War encampment from September 25-27. The 5th Texas Company F sets up a living history weekend with a camp site filled with soldier demonstrations, crafts, rifle displays, and period dress.

In 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg, central to the story of America’s 250 year anniversary, happened in the center of a rural community and greatly affected the families around it. Confederate soldiers camped on the Silac Family farm in Biglerville, which included the 1857 barn that now houses the National Apple Museum.

In addition to experiencing the daily life of a Civil War encampment, guests will also learn about how the community of northern Adams County contributed food, clothes, and medical supplies to Union soldiers in Gettysburg to help the cause of freedom.

Living history hours: September 25 from 7pm-9pm; September 26 from 10am-9pm; and September 27 from 9am-noon

The National Apple Museum will also be open for tours on Saturday, September 26 from 10am to 4pm with a patriotic quilt display, demonstrations, history talks, and baked goods for sale.
