Clara Barton & The Missing Soldiers Office

The George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital in Gettysburg presents Clara Barton & The Missing Soldiers Office on Friday, September 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at 488 Blacksmith Shop Road. Madeleine Thompson, Site Manager of the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum, leads this program exploring one of the Civil War era’s most remarkable figures.

Clara Barton defied convention throughout her career, bringing aid directly to soldiers in the field, advocating for those left behind, and leading an unprecedented effort to identify and account for missing soldiers after the war. Thompson traces Barton’s Civil War service, her work at the Missing Soldiers Office in Washington, D.C., and the lasting impact of her humanitarian career.

The program also examines the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum, which preserves Barton’s story inside the Washington boardinghouse where she once lived and worked. The historic setting offers a direct connection to the mission that helped families discover the fate of missing loved ones.

Ticket reservations are required. Ticket holders may drive directly to the George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital, where on-site parking is available for the program.
