The National Civil War Museum will offer its second program in our 2020 Lessons in History Speaker Series of 12 free lectures to the public with NCWM Chief Executive Officer & Licensed Gettysburg Battlefield Guide, Wayne E. Motts.

“From Gettysburg to Madison County, Kentucky and Back To Gettysburg: A Local Boy Comes To His Own Hometown To Fight in the Civil War’s Greatest Battle.”
George W. H. Stouch was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in 1842. The son of a carriage maker, he lived in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with his family until 1856 when his family relocated to Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky. At the outbreak of the war, George joined the United States Regular Army and fought with Army of the Potomac. He came back to his hometown (Gettysburg), and on July 2, 1863 while fighting in the Wheatfield, he was wounded in action. He stayed in the regular army after the war and retired a lieutenant colonel. He died in 1906 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Join historian Wayne E. Motts, the CEO of the National Civil War Museum located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to hear more of Stouch’s unique story.

Wayne E. Motts is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Civil War Museum, one of the largest Civil War Museums in the country, located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He has been a licensed battlefield guide at the Gettysburg National Military Park for thirty-one years. He is the co-author (with James Hessler) of Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg: A Guide to the Most Famous Attack in American History, released in 2015 by Savas Beatie of California.

The 2020 Lessons in History program is free to the public. Regular museum admission applies for entrance to the museum galleries.
