You are invited to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Ordnance Detachment of the Civil War Dance Foundation features a unique display of pre-war weapons that were in the arsenals when the war began, U.S. Rifle-Musket series, imported arms, some of the new breechloaders used for the first time in the war, and handguns and edged weapons.
Historians in period attire explain to guests the weapons and technology of the war, including various breechloaders, the Maynard tape and pellet priming systems, and pinfire and rimfire cartridges. The historians also tell the story of the role of women and children in manufacturing ammunition.
Free and open to the public.
