What did civilians grow in their garden during the Civil War? Hettie Shriver’s garden, at the Shriver House Museum, has been transported to the past, and features the herbs, plants and vegetables that Hettie would have grown herself in 1863.
Tour Guide & Gardener, Gayle Underwood, spends a day in Hettie’s garden discussing historic plants, herbal remedies, & gardening techniques. Guests are welcome to bring a chair or stool. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the discussion will be held into the Garden Room, just behind the Shriver House Gift Shop.
All participants will receive a plant from the garden to take home and light refreshments will be provided.
This event takes place Sunday, June 28th from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Shriver House Museum, 307 Baltimore Street. Tickets cost $15 for youth, $18 for Gettysburg History members, and $20 for general adult admission.
