Experience the thunder of Civil War artillery on July 1 during a rare hands-on cannon firing event at the Beyond the Battle Museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Participants will have the opportunity to join a trained cannon crew and fire a reproduction 10-pounder Parrott rifle by pulling the lanyard to discharge a blank black powder round.
Held outdoors at the Beyond the Battle Museum on Biglerville Road, this immersive Gettysburg history experience offers a close look at the power, precision, and procedures behind Civil War artillery operations. Designed for history enthusiasts and visitors exploring Adams County during the Gettysburg anniversary season, the program combines interactive learning with authentic living history interpretation.
Cannon firings will take place every 10 minutes from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on July 1. Advance registration is required, and participants must reserve a specific ticket appointment time. To view all available firing slots, select “other times” during registration.
Tickets are $50 for Gettysburg History members and $70 for general admission.
Important: All participants must sign a waiver of liability before firing the cannon. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Individuals ages 16 and 17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
