Fraktur-ing the Family: The Printed Art of the Pennsylvania-Germans will be on view from May 7, 2026 through April 2, 2027 in Special Collections and College Archives at Musselman Library, Gettysburg College. The exhibit explores the folk art tradition of Fraktur, a distinctive printed art form developed by Pennsylvania-German communities. Known for its sharp Gothic lettering, bright colors, and decorative motifs such as birds, hearts, and biblical symbols, Fraktur prints were often used to document important life events like births and baptisms.
Approximately ten pieces from the Elizabeth H. Paul, Class of 1964, Fraktur Collection will be on display, along with information about the artists, printing methods, and cultural traditions behind the works.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Special Collections and College Archives is open Monday–Friday, 1–5 p.m. during the academic year (August–December 2026 and January–May 2027). Summer visits are available by appointment.
