Visitors to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center on Memorial Day can see and learn about original weapons used in the American Civil War Monday, May 27, 2024, with the “Guns of Gettysburg.”
The Ordnance Detachment of the Civil War Dance Foundation features their unique display of pre-war weapons that were in the arsenals when the war began, U.S. Rifle-Musket series, imported arms, some of the new breechloaders used for the first time in the war, and handguns and edged weapons
Historians in period attire will explain to guests the weapons and technology of the war, including various breechloaders, the Maynard tape and pellet priming systems, and pinfire and rimfire cartridges. Historians will tell the story of the role of women and children in manufacturing ammunition.
