History Kids Reading Adventures: Guts for Glory

Join a park educator each Saturday at 11 a.m. in the theater to read a new children’s book (with pages on the big screen). Then participate in an indoor activity or outdoor adventure.

The History Kids Reading Adventures Club 2026 theme is “America: 250 Years of Change-Makers” and the schedule of book selections this year include:

January 17:
Guts for Glory: The Story of Civil War Soldier Rosetta Wakeman by Joanna Lapati

January 24:
Rosie the Riveter: The Legacy of an American Icon by Sarah Dvojack

January 31:
A Flea for Justice: Marian Wright Edelman Stands Up for Change by Valerie Bolling

February 7:
I Am Sally Ride by Brad Meltzer

February 14:
I Am Dolly Parton by Brad Meltzer

February 21:
Girls With Guts: The Road to Breaking Barriers and Bashing Records by Debbie Gonzales

February 28:
The Flag We Love by Pam Munoz Ryan

These programs, presented by Gettysburg National Military Park, are free and open to the public. Recommended for families with children ages 4-10. No reservations are necessary for the History Kids Reading Adventures Club. Just show up ready to read and learn.
