Juneteenth | Hidden Histories: Black Gettysburg

The Gettysburg Licensed Town Guides present special Black History walking tours during Juneteenth weekend 2026 in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. These one-hour guided tours explore the experiences of Gettysburg’s large Black community from the years leading up to the Civil War through Reconstruction, highlighting the people and events that shaped the town’s role along the road to freedom.

Guests walk through downtown Gettysburg while hearing stories of abolitionists, kidnappers, freedom seekers, and local residents connected to the Underground Railroad and the fight for freedom. The tour offers deeper insight into an important chapter of Gettysburg history that extends beyond the battlefield and into the lives of the community that lived through the era.

As America250 commemorations continue across Pennsylvania and the nation, Gettysburg remains central to the story of freedom, equality, and the ongoing struggle to define the American experience.

Tours take place Friday, June 19, Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tours are led by the Gettysburg Licensed Town Guides. The preliminary meeting location is Chambersburg Street, with final tour location details provided at booking. Reservations are requested at least three hours before tour time. Tickets cost $25 for adults, $10 for youth ages 10–17, and children ages 9 and under attend free.
