Lincoln Into Art: A Brush with 1860

The Adams County Library System – Gettysburg presents Lincoln Into Art: A Brush with 1860 on February 5, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at 140 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

In this program, artist Wendy Allen explores the creation of an oil portrait on canvas as it would have been executed in 1860. Drawing on the work of George Peter Alexander Healy, Allen demonstrates how she recreated a portrait of Abraham Lincoln using the techniques and materials of the period.

Through a multimedia presentation, audiences will witness the portrait come to life on the canvas while learning stories about the pivotal events of 1860, President Lincoln’s legacy, and Healy’s influential artistry.

This program blends art, history, and scholarship to provide a rich, educational experience that connects participants to the cultural and historical context of the era.
