Melted Away: A History of the National Civil War Wax Museum

More than 9 million visitors experienced the the former “National Civil War Wax Museum” on Steinwehr Avenue during its 50 year run. The museum closed its doors in 2014.

In this presentation, Glenn Corbett discusses the role of historically-themed wax museums in “edutainment,” and features Gettysburg’s own museum that opened in 1962. He traces the design, development, and operation of the Gettysburg museum using never-seen archival materials and images.

Two former tenants of the museum will even be in attendance for selfies!
