Open House at Evergreen Cemetery Historic Gatehouse

Evergreen Cemetery Gatehouse Open During A Gettysburg Christmas Festival

During A Gettysburg Christmas Festival, the historic Evergreen Cemetery Gatehouse will be open to community members and visitors. Guests can step inside the home of the current caretaker and see the room where Generals Sickles, Slocum, and Howard were served by caretaker Elizabeth Thorn during the Battle of Gettysburg. The original second-floor bedroom will also be open for visitors to explore.

The children’s book Evergreen: A Gettysburg Tale will be available for purchase, along with Evergreen Christmas cards and framed Evergreen bluebird prints. Admission is free, and donations will be accepted, with all proceeds benefiting the Gatehouse Preservation Project.

Visitors are encouraged to park along Baltimore Street/Baltimore Pike and enter through the archway to the rear entrance under the balcony.
