Planted Through History: A Conversation with Gayle the Gardner

Join Gayle Underwood, Shriver House gardener, for a stroll in Ms. Hettie’s kitchen garden on September 26 at 3pm. The garden was always an important commodity during the Civil War era, and Hettie Shriver would have filled hers with all of the herbs, plants, and vegetables that she would need to provide for her family.

As an added bonus, participants will bring a piece of the Shriver House home with them, taking a plant to grow in their own gardens.

Please note that seating in the garden is not guaranteed. Participants are welcome to bring a chair or stool. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the discussion will be held in the Garden Room, just behind the Shriver House Gift Shop on Baltimore Street in Gettysburg.

Tickets are $10/Gettysburg History members and $15/general admission. Reserve your tickets here.
