Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center presents Revolution on the Ridge – It Runs in the Family: From William to Rufus Dawes on Friday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m.
Judy Morley, Executive Director of the museum, explores the remarkable family legacy of Rufus Dawes, a noted Civil War officer who fought with the famed Iron Brigade at the Battle of Gettysburg. While many recognize his role in the Civil War, this presentation delves deeper into his ancestry, tracing connections to key figures of the American Revolution.
Dawes was the great-grandson of Manasseh Cutler, a driving force behind the Northwest Ordinance and early development of the Ohio Territory, as well as William Dawes, one of the riders who warned colonists of the British advance alongside Paul Revere. The program highlights how this powerful lineage connects the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, offering a deeper understanding of one of Gettysburg’s notable figures.
