Celebrate Independence Day in the heart of Gettysburg with a full afternoon and evening of history, music, and storytelling at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg. The July 4 program begins with an Open House from noon to 3 p.m., offering visitors a chance to explore one of Gettysburg’s historic churches before returning at 7 p.m. for the anniversary presentation of Songs and Stories of a Civil War Hospital.
This year’s performance features special guest Kathleen Mouraneen, known for her appearance in the film Gettysburg, along with a moving presentation of the poem Roll Call. Audience members also take part in the returning tradition of Your Soldier, where each attendee receives the name of a real Civil War soldier and discovers that individual’s fate following the performance. The immersive program connects personal stories with Gettysburg’s enduring Civil War legacy, creating a memorable Independence Day experience in one of the nation’s most historic communities.
Admission is free. A freewill offering is received during the program to support this annual presentation.
