Adams County Library System presents Tavern Culture in the American Revolution on Thursday, August 6 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the Gettysburg Library, 140 Baltimore St in Gettysburg. This adult program features Matthew Wedd of the Conococheague Institute exploring how public taverns shaped politics, trade, and daily life during the Revolutionary era.
Using primary sources, reproduction artifacts, costume interpretation, and period songs, the presentation brings 18th-century tavern culture to life while examining how taverns served as gathering places for conversation, debate, and relaxation during the years surrounding the American Revolution. Guests also learn about the drinks, customs, and social atmosphere common in colonial America.
Registration is required for this adult program. Registration closes at 6:00 PM on August 6, 2026.
